Kathleen O'Neal and W. Micheal Gear

This is a husband and wife team who write riveting and authentic feeling anthropological fiction of pre-historic America. Their series of novels have titles such as People of the Mist, People of the Owl, People of the Fire, People of the Thunder, etc, and they tell the stories of Anasazi, Algonquin, Iroquois, Clovis and other pre-historic cultures.
The novels usually begin in modern day, at an archeological dig. Typically something happens on the dig that doesn’t feel quite right, or a mystery occurs that must be delved into. Very quickly the story flashes back to the prehistoric civilization and people of the time of the dig. The stories are truly epic, rich with detail of early people and their lives, and full of suspense and drama. There is often a very mystical, even supernatural element to the stories which I personally enjoy and think works well with these fact based fantasies.
