Welcome to BRL Staff Picks!
December is Read a New Book Month, so we have created this blog as a way for the staff at Blackwater Regional library to share their favorite books with the public. This blog will continue to be updated after Read a New Book Month, so expect to see new books appear on this blog each month. Next time you are at one of our branches, check out one or more of these books, and then use this blog as a place to comment on and discuss the featured books. We hope you enjoy some of these books and look forward to your comments!
Kathleen O'Neal and W. Micheal Gear
This is a husband and wife team who write riveting and authentic feeling anthropological fiction of pre-historic America. Their series of novels have titles such as People of the Mist, People of the Owl, People of the Fire, People of the Thunder, etc, and they tell the stories of Anasazi, Algonquin, Iroquois, Clovis and other pre-historic cultures. The novels usually begin in modern day, at an archeological dig. Typically something happens on the dig that doesn’t feel quite right, or a mystery occurs that must be delved into. Very quickly the story flashes back to the prehistoric civilization and people of the time of the dig. The stories are truly epic, rich with detail of early people and their lives, and full of suspense and drama. There is often a very mystical, even supernatural element to the stories which I personally enjoy and think works well with these fact based fantasies.

Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts
It’s the "Nora kind” of love story we all fell for like in her earlier works…...I’m hooked again! This is the second installment of a set of 4 books Each about one of 4 friends who own a part of a wedding planning business. The characters are wonderful and you can revisit and enjoy the continued story of each relationship.
Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Millie's Marvellous Hat by Satoshi Kitamura
Even though Millie doesn't have the money to buy all the expensive hats in the shop, she can experience the delight of wearing them when the shopkeeper suggests she use her imagination.
